Janet and her mother just got back from a road trip to Denver with a rented Edge. I took the keys while they were cooking/not looking.

I drove it about 10 miles, mostly in the neighborhood.

Engine: Eco-Boost 3.5L

Trans: some kind of manual/automatic that shifts out of your selected gear if it thinks you are doing it wrong.

My rating.

Performance: 2/10 on a scale of 10.

(It has massive lag from idle start. And I mean massive. Get it rolling to 10+ mph and then hit the throttle and it takes off. Probably a built in idiot factor).

Shifting: : 2/10. OK if you don’t want any kind of performance.

Ride: 5/10. Ok.

Steering:8/10. Pretty good.

Would I buy one? No way.

When I brought it back to the house I was greeted by 2 women who were really pissed that I took it.

My reply: You left the keys to a 2015 rental car out in plain sight. Did you not think I would take it for a drive?

Said motor isn’t offered in the Edge...

He’ll have just got a little mixed up. Theres a 3.5 NA V6 and a 2.7 ecoboost 6. Easy mistake to make.

Only eco bist engines in the edge are the 2.0 four and 2.7 six. The 3.5 is NA which would explain the lack of any torque

I know, I wasn’t trying to be harsh. If you’re going to be hard on a car you should get the facts straight. There’s also an ecoboost 4 which sounds more in line with his complaints.

We have a few in our rental fleet at work. Kinda boring to drive but HUGE inside and comfortable to ride in. Good road trip vehicle.

That is probably true. I stand by my facts. The thing is an absolute dog.

Well you are probably right. I did not dig into the manual to further explaore it. I saw 6 cylinders and... well assumed. Still a piece of shit. Regardless.

I concede that. I did not find the seats wide enough. I am not a large person and felt a bit confined.

Rental car

Eco-Boost 3.5L

You sure?

“Shifting: : 2/10. OK if you don’t want any kind of performance.”

SUV, there is no need for “performance.”

No problem, I wish the 3.5 ecoboost was actually an option :)
